SoloRunClub xx was developed by founder Melanie Caple, in 2025.

As a lifelong solo runner, I was becoming increasingly aware of the safety risks that were preventing many people from going for a run on their own, at a time and place of their choosing.

I didn’t want to join a club and I didn’t want to have to be tracked step-by-step by a partner or friend in case something happened to me.

I wanted the freedom and independence of solo running and to have a safety back up if I needed it, and no app really catered to solo runners. So I decided to create an app made for solo runners, who want to feel independent, supported, and connect with an online community who feel the same.

Not competitive like many fitness apps, not sacrificing privacy for safety, an app that empowers those who might otherwise feel too vulnerable to go solo.

While it may not leave physical marks, technology-facilitated abuse can be extensive and cause enduring harm. It may also serve as a red flag for future catastrophic physical violence.”

Experts warn no matter what safety precautions are adopted, no device that involves a tracking function should be considered absolutely safe.

SoloRunClub xx is an app that gives you both privacy and a community of solo runners and exercisers, whilst also ensuring that safety is in place for if something ever doesn’t go to plan.

Perfect for:

  • Women of all ages and ever feel unsafe while exercising.

  • Anyone who might feel vulnerable on their own and love the idea of a planned support system, just in case.

  • The elderly or those with or recovering from illness or injury.

  • Those who love privacy and their own space. Those who love to exercise independently and have the confidence to set their own pace. Those who want to regain their confidence.

  • Those who love flying solo, but also love being part of a broader community.

I love running when and where the impulse takes me – which can sometimes be at dusk on isolated rail trails. I would message my sister before and after every run, just so she knew I was safe. I’d sign off those messages with ‘xx’, almost like a homing signal, hence the name Solo Run Club xx.

Now, without even needing to know if I’ve gone for a run, she’ll be confident that she’ll be notified if something goes wrong. If I don’t check out at the end of my session time, my emergency contact will be sent my location so they can get help if needed.
